LOREN DUNTON MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

For this scholarship, the College considers individuals who have proven themselves to be leaders in the financial planning field (minimum of five years experience) and have given something back to the profession.

This scholarship is awarded is in honor of the late Loren Dunton, who was the driving force that solidified the ideas and activities of the professional financial planner. Mr. Dunton played a significant role in the creation and promotion of the IAFP, the College, and the Institute of Certified Financial Planners.

Qualifying Factors

  • Loren Dunton Scholarship recipients must have applied for and been accepted into the College’s Master of Science degree program, and also must be actively practicing in the field of personal financial planning.
  • The Loren Dunton Scholarship will cover all remaining courses needed in the master's degree program. 
  • Deadline for submission of nominations to the College for Financial Planning® is April 1 annually.
  • Nominations for candidates are accepted from both individuals and companies.
  • Applicants will be informed no later than July 31 each year of the scholarship committee's decisions.

Experience in the Financial Planning Field
You must currently be active in personal financial planning and hold one or more licenses, registrations, or other designations common to the field of personal financial planning. Specific criteria that will be evaluated are work experience, licenses, designations, recognitions received, academic accomplishments, and unsolicited letters from past and present clients.

Leadership
Leadership qualities may be evidenced by such criteria as: positions of authority held with personal financial planning organizations and associations, seminar presentations, committee chairmanships, and published articles in industry publications.

Community Service
An assessment of community service involvement will be based on factors including your participation in public service causes, committees, and organizations. The College committee also will consider awards, speaking engagements, or other types of recognition.

Commitment to the Profession
You must provide a written statement describing your commitment to the profession of personal financial planning and why you should receive the Loren Dunton Merit Scholarship award. Your statement should be limited to a maximum length of one 8 1/2" x 11" page, or the equivalent.

FINANCIAL ANALYSIS SCHOLARSHIP

To promote professionalism in financial analysis, this Scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified U.S. citizen master's student who is interested in pursuing the CFA Institute's Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charter.

The scholarship covers remaining tuition for the Master of Science degree program, as well as the fee for the Level I CFA exam, minus a $100 (U.S.) administrative fee (study materials and textbooks not included).

  • Deadline for submission of nominations to the College for Financial Planning® is April 1 annually.
  • Nominations for candidates are accepted from both individuals and companies. 
  • Applicants will be informed no later than July 31 each year of the scholarship committee's decisions.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have applied and been accepted into the College for Financial Planning's Master of Science degree program, Financial Analysis major, no later than April 1 of the current year.

CFA Institute Requirements
Applicants must fulfill all CFA Institute Level I CFA candidate requirements.

INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL ANALYSIS SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded annually to a qualified, non-U.S. citizen master's student who is interested in pursuing a CFA Institute Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charter, this scholarship is intended to promote professionalism in financial analysis at the international level.

This scholarship covers remaining tuition for the Master of Science degree program, as well as the fee for the Level I CFA exam, minus a $100 (U.S.) administrative fee (study materials and textbooks are not included).

  • Deadline for submission of nominations to the College for Financial Planning® is April 1 annually.
  • Nominations for candidates are accepted from both individuals and companies.

Citizenship Requirements
Applicants must be non-U.S. citizens.

MILITARY SCHOLARSHIPS

The College for Financial Planning offers several scholarships that are specific to our military students and their spouses. These include scholarships for our graduate degrees and certification/designation programs.

Military Master’s Degree Scholarships

The College offers graduate degree scholarships in our two degree programs: Master of Science Degree, Personal Financial Planning and Master of Science in Finance Degree. Amplifying information for each scholarship follows.

Military Master of Science Degree, Personal Financial Planning Scholarship

To promote professionalism in the financial planning field, and specifically to a member of the armed services or their spouse, this scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified master’s student who is interested in pursuing a Master of Science (M.S.) Degree, Personal Financial Planning Major.

Qualifying Factors

  • Scholarship applicants must have applied for and been accepted into the College’s Graduate Degree Programs.
  • The scholarship will cover all remaining courses needed to complete the degree.
  • Deadline for submission to the College for Financial Planning is September 1 annually.
  • Applicants will be informed no later than December 31 each year of the scholarship committee’s decisions.
  • One scholarship per year will be awarded to an applicant in each of the following categories:
    • An active duty member of the armed services
    • An active duty reservist of the armed services
    • A spouse of an active duty member of the armed services
  • Applicants must submit evidence of eligibility.

Community Service

An assessment of community service involvement will be based on factors including your participation in public service causes, committees, and organizations. Awards, speaking engagements, or other types of recognition also will be considered by the College committee.

To promote professionalism in the fields of finance or financial analysis, and specifically to a member of the armed services or their spouse, this scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified master’s student who is interested in pursuing a Master of Science in Finance (M.S.F.) Degree or a Master of Science in Finance (M.S.F.) Degree, Financial Analysis Major.

Qualifying Factors

  • Scholarship applicants must have applied for and been accepted into the College’s Master of Science in Finance Degree program.
  • The scholarship will cover all remaining courses needed to complete the degree.
  • Deadline for submission to the College for Financial Planning is September 1 annually.
  • Applicants will be informed no later than December 31 each year of the scholarship committee’s decisions.
  • One scholarship per year (either in the Master of Science in Finance Degree or Master of Science in Finance Degree, Financial Analysis Major) will be awarded to an applicant in each of the following categories:
    • An active duty member of the armed services
    • An active duty reservist of the armed services
    • A spouse of an active duty member of the armed services
  • Applicants must submit evidence of eligibility.

CFA INSTITUTE CFA® EXAM MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Up to eight awarded annually.

In order to introduce outstanding students to the investment profession and provide an opportunity for mentoring during the study process, the CFA Institute, sponsor and administrator of the CFA Program, and the College for Financial Planning® offer these scholarships to assist master's students planning to take the CFA Level-I exam.

This scholarship pays the exam fee minus a $100 (U.S.) administrative fee (study materials and textbooks are not included).

  • Students do not apply directly to CFA Institute for these scholarships. Instead, they apply to the College for Financial Planning® to be sponsored by a qualified professor.
  • Deadline for submission of nominations to the College for Financial Planning® is April 1 annually.
  • Nominations for candidates are accepted from both individuals and companies. 
  • Applicants will be informed no later than July 31 each year of the scholarship committee's decisions.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have applied and been accepted into the College for Financial Planning's Master of Science degree program, Financial Analysis major, no later than April 1 of the current year.

Availability
Available to new candidates at the Level I only.

CFA Institute Requirements
Applicants must fulfill all CFA Institute Level I CFA candidate requirements.
